If you want a small dog a Miniature Doberman Pinscher maybe the way to go. They are known as the queen of small dog. They are a smallest breed from the pinscher family. The first factual documentation dates back to 1836, however they weren’t an established breed until they were commonly bred in Germany in 1880. After years of study, in 1836, they determined that the Miniature Pinscher is a cross between a smooth coated Dachshund and an Italian Greyhound. This is the only documented fact about the Min Pin’s origin.
Contrary to what most people think this breed is not a “miniature Doberman” they just look similar and the Doberman breed was introduced to the US market before the Miniature Pinschers were. As a breed they weren’t officially introduced or recognized by the AKC until 1929. Because they were introduced as a “Doberman in miniature” the name Miniature Doberman Pinscher stuck until the name was officially changed to Miniature Pinscher in 1972.
Typically, Miniature Doberman Pinscher stands 10- 12.5 inches and weights 8 to 12 pounds. The original breed appeared to be stouter in appearance than today’s refined dog. Their coat is short and smooth. Their standard colors range from red, stag-red, black or chocolate with tan or rust markings. They frequently have a docked tail and cropped ears. Grooming is easy. Since they have smooth short hair, their coat requires very little attention. If you they live in a cold weather climate, care must be taken because their coat provides virtually no insulation.
A Miniature Doberman Pinscher has an energetic, playful and friendly temperament. They thrive for interaction with their owner. Because of their playful nature they are outgoing, responsive and clever dogs. They are very loyal dogs, and protected dogs. They were originally bred to hunt vermin, but they also make great watch dogs barking at any threats. These dogs need a lot of exercise per day and a backyard is ideal for them. For they like to be outdoors to run around. If they stay in the backyard the fence must be secure, for this breed is known as Houdini. For they have a knack at escaping. Apartment living isn’t ideal for these dogs, unless you are willing to give them 45 minutes or more of exercise a day.
